Any new residents of the Armounies in RA?
Hi

I'm due to move to the Armouries soon (if we can ever sort out the mortgage problems!). Is anyone on the site a new resident and how are you finding the move to the area? Or generally newcomers to the area? Would be nice to meet people in the community once more people move in.

I am not a resident, but I would just like to apologise in advance for my "amusing" photograph of your prospective home in the photo section of this site.

In all seriousness, the Royal Arsenal looks like a really cool place to live (I walk through it every day as my employer has an industrial unit there)!

Re: Any new residents of the Armounies in RA?
Hello
Unsure whether I qualify for this, but am moving to near. That's if I don't bottle out, with all the dark murmurings of coming-home-late-at-night, scenarios. Anyway, let this be my awkward introduction to this interestingly positive site.
I lived in Deptford for 9 years, and grew to love it, particularly its river and beach. So much so, that when I left, I went into a flurry of poem pennings at the loss. I decided to try Woolwich, but couldn't quite bring myself to return to the chaotic urban textures after being way from London, now think I'm ready. Not that it's an investment, but I do hope that Woolwich will become more accepted, not by its future surface beautification, but by its fundamental relationship with the nautical past.
One of the more inspiring Deptford moments, was walking along the beach down from the Pepys' Estate; but I can't seem to find one at Woolwich. Can you get down to the beach, it seems blocked off?
I find that Woolwich is developing differently from SE8, I suppose it's more cut off/self contained.
Maybe I shouldn't be making a comparison, although it may make an interesting thread. Good luck with your amusing photographs.

You can indeed get down to the shore at a couple of places.
There are some steps on the Western border of the Arsenal estate down from the Thames path, and also some steps near the Waterfront Leisure Centre.

I would hesitate to call it a beach...

You can often spot members of the mudlarking site http://thamesandfield.co.uk/ looking for Roman gold and the like.

I'm not in Armouries, but I'm quite close. I've lived in the area for quite a few years now. Everyone I've spoken to that comes to visit the area loves it. The history is wonderful. How many places have 2 museums on site with an air port 2 stops away that serves NY JFK twice daily, crossraill, a flagship eco friendly Tesco. Just wait for another 12 months or so and you'll have some restaurants and a nice bar on site.

As long as you don't expect Knightsbridge and don't mind going 10 mins up the road to Blackheath/Greenwich for nightlife and food, you'll be fine.

There's very real old london community here. Check out the fruit and veg stalls at the market, very nice people and true Londoners.

Im in a neighnbouring luxury dev, the area is ok but I find so much rubbish, dog waste and rubbish about specially in the estates, I dont understand with the Olympics supposedly coming how the council
can neglect woolwich sanitation so much,, or are most residents to blame for the inaction?

Makes me wonder why even the Admin in this site hates Woolwich????It's slowly setting in.............I dont hate it, just shocked really

I assure you admin loves Woolwich, that's why the site is called what it is... but there's always things to hate anywhere you go.
