After seeing a post on the forum I did some ferretting around and found some info on the Empire theatre in Beresford street..
This picture is reproduced with kind permission of Matthew LLoyd who is webmaster of an excellent website dedicated to theatre and music hall.
The building was demolished in 1960 to make way for the auto stacker

For more information and and clearer picture please check out Matthews website

This old pub still stands in Vincent road, which was previously known as Cross street,  In Vincents records of Woolwich there is a mention of the Bull tavern in Cross street being burned to the ground in March 1842, apparently one hundred and fifty men of the Royal engineers corps helped fight the blaze and eighteen people were injured when the front wall collapsed.. This building obviously replaced the original.

This view shows the area mostly around Beresford Square, if you look closely you can see the DLR excavations

Not a very sharp picture but a great view..
The camera would have been on the corner of Hare street looking west.
You can just about see the sign on the front of Plaisteds, on the left and the road marked Nile street ( on the right ) was later renamed Ferry Approach

Here's a real gem I found today..  It was gathering dust in the office of the Woolwich town centre manager and would probably have ended up in the bin if I had not rescued it.. the original copy that I have at home is about 2 foot square...
I have spent ages studying the picture...
Look at the housing where Sainsburys and Lidl both stand now...
The cinema where Iceland is now..
A big empty site where the Walpole estate now stands..
John Wilson street is practically unrecognisable..
