Not a very sharp picture but a great view..
The camera would have been on the corner of Hare street looking west.
You can just about see the sign on the front of Plaisteds, on the left and the road marked Nile street ( on the right ) was later renamed Ferry Approach

The Royal arsenal cooperative society opened in 1868 occupied these premises until the present "Central Stores" replaced them in 1903 .

Here's a real gem I found today..  It was gathering dust in the office of the Woolwich town centre manager and would probably have ended up in the bin if I had not rescued it.. the original copy that I have at home is about 2 foot square...
I have spent ages studying the picture...
Look at the housing where Sainsburys and Lidl both stand now...
The cinema where Iceland is now..
A big empty site where the Walpole estate now stands..
John Wilson street is practically unrecognisable..

This page is from an early 20th century trade magazine of some sort.
The company are showing the ornately carved chair which they built for the Mayor of Woolwich and which is still in use to this day.

If you  look closely at the text, you will see that the chair was designed by Sir Alfred Brumwell-Thomas.  The same man who designed the Town hall itself
